Call for Entry: 10 × 10: One Hundred Square Inches

October 3 – November 7, 2026 | Co-Juried Exhibition

Sophia Stef Gallery, 3rd Floor, The People's Store, 28 N Union Street, Lambertville, NJ, Union Street Entrance

Prompt

To celebrate Sophia Stef Gallery’s 10th exhibition, artists are invited to participate in 10 × 10: One Hundred Square Inches, a co-juried exhibition with established Philadelphia-based mixed-media artist Race Kuhn. The exhibition is built around one shared constraint: every artist begins with exactly the same amount of space.

Create an original work on a 10 × 10-inch stretched canvas—no larger, no smaller.

How much can you say in 100 square inches?

The format is consistent, but the approach is entirely individual. Artists are encouraged to explore the format through their own visual language—color, composition, texture, imagery, subject, material, or experimentation. The exhibition will bring together distinctly different voices and perspectives, each beginning with the same 100 square inches.

All accepted works will be displayed unframed, with fully painted canvas edges, and must arrive ready to hang. This consistent presentation will create visual continuity throughout the gallery while allowing the individuality of each work to take center stage.

All original media suitable for stretched canvas are welcome. Works must be priced at $1,000 or less, with artists receiving 70% of the sale price.

Guidelines

  • All pieces must be on a 10 inch (height) × 10 inch (width) x 1.5 - 1.75 inches (depth) stretched canvas

  • All works must have a hanging wire on the verso

  • All works must be priced at $1,000 or less

  • All works must have neatly painted edges

  • Artists may submit up to 2 original works for consideration

  • $40 flat fee for up to 2 submissions

Jurying Process

Sophia Stefanowski, a Bucks County native and founder of Sophia Stef Gallery, holds a degree in Art History and began her career as a fine art cataloger at Rago Auctions in Lambertville. Her deep connection to the regional arts community, combined with a strong foundation in art history and market experience, informs every aspect of the gallery's vision and programming.

Since founding the gallery, Sophia has organized, curated, and installed almost ten exhibitions, ranging from specialized shows focused on textiles and pastel works to large-scale group exhibitions featuring more than 60 artists and over 100 works of art. With opening receptions regularly attracting approximately 300 visitors, Sophia Stef Gallery has quickly become a vibrant gathering place for artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts in the Delaware River region.

Race Kuhn is a Philadelphia-area mixed-media collage artist whose practice incorporates recycled and vintage materials, found imagery, acrylic paint, and layered compositions. Largely self-taught, Race has also studied at Fleisher Art Memorial and Abington Art Center and has been exhibiting professionally since 2018. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Philadelphia region at venues including Da Vinci Art Alliance, ArtWRKD, Vox Populi, and Phillips’ Mill Gallery, where her work was selected for the 95th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. In 2018, Race received First Place in Abstract Art in a juried exhibition at Gallery on the Avenue, and in 2024 she curated and presented a solo exhibition at the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia. Her work, held in multiple private collections, explores femininity, human rights, sexuality, spirituality, and the repetitive nature of history through layered imagery and symbolic storytelling. As a co-juror, Race is drawn to work that provokes questions, opens dialogue, and gives visual language to what can be difficult to express, work of depth and complexity that asks the viewer to look deeper, enter its story, and find meaning beyond the first impression.
